How to get started?
If you know which League to join, just start by creating an entry for that league (see next section).
If you were invited by a friend, they should have told you which League you should join. If not ask them or see if a League name looks familiar.
How to create an Entry?
Make sure you know which League you want to join and then navigate to the "My Entries" page. Once there, click on the large, indigo plus-icon which will open a form where you can enter the Entry details.
First you have to pick the League you want to create the Entry for from the Drop Down (this will then populate the "pick" Drop Downs ). Next provide a name for your Entry.
Now you need to make your selection of which team/country you want to have as your first pick, second pick, etc. The order is important as it determines the "multiplier" for that team. The first team you pick gets a multiplier of 8, the second gets a multiplier of 7 etc. Your eight and last pick gets a multiplier of 1.
You can obviously only pick a team once per Entry, you cannot pick Belgium for each pick. The form is smart enough to prevent you from doing this. This means though, that if you want to change the position of one of your teams, you first have to "unselect" it from its current position and then you can select it in it's new position.
When you have picked your 8 teams, you can save your Entry. If it does not immediately appear in the list, please try refreshing your page.
How are points calculated?
A win for your team will earn you 3 points and a draw 1 point. There are no points for a loss. Your team will also accumulate 1 point per goal they score. Penalty Shootouts are not considered "goals"
These team points are then multiplied by that teams multiplier, determined by that teams position in your Entry; the higher the position, they higher the multiplier and therefor they more points you will get. Your first pick will have a multiplier of 8, your second pick will have a multiplier of 7 etc. Your eight and last pick has a multiplier of 1.
As an example, lets say I have Belgium as my second pick and England as my fourth pick in my Entry and they play each other in the Quarter Final. Belgium wins the game 3-2, a heartbreaker for England. Because Belgium won, they get 3 points. They also get 3 points for the 3 goals for a total of 6 points. Because I have Belgium in second place, I get 6 x 7 = 42 points. England on the other had gets 0 points for the loss, however, they still get 2 points for their goals. Since I have England in fourth place in my Entry, I get 2 x 5 = 10 points. My total points for this match are 10 + 42 = 52 points.
I know nothing about football, can I still play and compete?
I have been running this competition for more than 20 years now and very rarely does a person who considers themselves an expert, win. The way the points are calculated is specifically designed to give everybody a fair chance of winning, even if you know nothing about football.
To get started, you can look at the FIFA rankings or, better, look at the odds that bookies are offering.
Where can I see how I am doing?
The Leaderboard for a League can be accessed from the "My Entries" page, just click on the League name in the table of entries for which you want to see the Leaderboard.
What are Leagues?
Leagues are how we separate groups of Entries from one another. For example, maybe you like to play with people you work with and with people you socialize with, but you do not want to mix them. You can do this by creating separate Leagues for each group. Entries in different Leagues are separated from one another. The have separate leaderboards and entries from different Leagues do not compete with one another.
You do not have to create Leagues if you are just joining a League. You are however free to create Leagues and invite your friends to join those Leagues.
